Reading a Label: How to Spot Genuinely Herbal Products
MI Herbal Care Team 6 July 2026

The word “herbal” is not legally protected. A product can carry leaves on its label and still be 90% synthetic. Here is how to read past the marketing.
1. Read the first five ingredients
Ingredients are listed by concentration. If a herb appears at the very end of a long list, it is present in a token amount.
2. Look for what is absent
Mineral oil, SLS/SLES, parabens and synthetic fragrance are the four most common fillers in “herbal” products.
3. Check for AYUSH and GMP licensing
A genuine Ayurvedic manufacturer will print its AYUSH licence number on the pack.
4. Short shelf life is a good sign
Truly natural formulations rarely last five years. A 18–24 month shelf life usually indicates minimal preservatives.
5. Buy from verified stores
Counterfeits are common. Always buy through the brand’s official Amazon or Flipkart storefront.
